This Sunday 1st March, twelve of our young athletes will be part of Team Birmingham at the Fun in Athletics and West Midlands Regional Sportshall Finals at North Solihull Sports Centre.
Athletes from Halesowen and four other clubs from the Birmingham Sportshall League have been selected for Team Birmingham and they will be competing against teams from Hereford & Worcester, Warwickshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
In the Under 11s, Jeevan Johan, Daniel Brookes, Phoebe Mai-Pye and Emma Massingham will be representing the club.
The Under 13s Girls team sees a record number of five Halesowen athletes, namely Philippa Harlow, Mya-Rose Jackson, Tamsin White, Cerys Brook and Jessica Dale. Alex Taylor lines up for the Under 13 Boys.
Betsy Cooper is in the Under 15 Girls team and a special mention for Thomas Power, who has given up his ticket to watch Aston Villa at Wembley to be part of the Under 15 Boys team.
The winning Under 13 and Under 15 teams from Sunday’s meeting all go forward to the National Finals which will be held in Sheffield and outstanding individuals can also earn a selection place too. A number of famous athletes including Kelly Sotherton, Mark Lewis-Francis and Matthew Hudson-Smith have competed at the National Finals along with Josie and Iris Oliarnyk.
The Under 11s Fun in Athletics events starts at North Solihull Sports Centre at 10.30 am with the West Midlands Regional Final for Under 13s and 15s starting at 2.30 pm and spectators are welcome.
