A Family Affair

Cofton Park was the venue for the latest round of the Men’s and Women’s Cross County League.   The women’s team was led home by U20 County Champion Lily Higgins, in 5th place and first Junior.   Proud Mum, Emma Higgins racing in preparation for her London Marathon debut in April, was getting race updates on Lily’s progress from HA&CC’s band of supporters.   On her first cross country race of the season, Abigail Saker was second junior home overall.

County Masters Medallists Kerri James and Melanie Hepke continued their strong season, well supported by Beckie Moore, Julie Dale, Sally Spencer, Simone Jones, Ellen Ambrose, Caroline Lambert, Eilish James, Liz Hawker, Anna Cosimetti and Helen Attwood.

Before the men’s race got underway, a warm round of applause for Andy Nock before his 150th appearance in the League (4 races per season).     Marc Turner was first back for the team on consecutive weekends, with Captain Peter Dear having his strongest race of the year and finishing 3rd junior overall next back.   Adam Cross, and Kristian Bailey were next back for the men in Old Gold.

Jonathan Lewis was in the scoring A team for the first time this season, with his Dad David, also completing the tough 10km course.   Tom Kenderdine completed the scoring for the A team who remain just outside the promotion places with one race to go.

The B team are the second in the league overall with Dave Turvey, leading the way, Roger Mallard, Mateus Silwinksi, Russ Cadwallader, Paul Bradley, and James Hoult who continued his excellent progress over the winter with his eyes on a top 6 finish in the very near future.
