Race Walking Report:
1st Winter League Stourport cycleway 13th October
Halesowen were represented by 4 athletes for the first time in many years. The first race of the day was the combined 5k. Julie Bellfield took on this race (her first of two). She had a great battle with several other walkers but finally breaking away from them with a lap remaining. Julie was very pleased with her performance going sub 30 for the first time in a few years with a time of 29.44 and finishing 3rd overall.
The second race of the day was combined 1,2 and 3k. Halesowen had a representative in Isabel Knowles taking part in her first ever competitive race over any distance in u15 3k. Isabel started off very sensibly towards the back of the field but after the 1st km she started to work her way through the field passing everyone except for the first two athletes. She was second girl in a fantastic time of 21.53 having only really trained specifically for a few sessions.
Last race of the day was combined 10k Halesowen having three representatives. Julie and Lynn Bellfield and new member Grazina Narviliene returning to racing after a break. Grazina and Julie walked sensibly and kept together until the final lap when Grazina broke away, Julie was feeling a little stiff following the 5k earlier but pushed on. Lynn Bellfield was chasing down one of the male Birchfield athletes despite having periformis issues, she didn’t quite get him.
The results were
Grazina Narviliene in 3rd 62.39 which will be much quicker in the future
Julie Bellfield 4th (5th overall) in 63.21 still one of her better times
Lynn Bellfield 7th (10th overall) in 66.51 not too far from her best time
A good day all round.
