Dear PaulHalesowen Acc team participation in Masters athletics for your members over 35: It is likely that some of your athletes participate in Masters Athletics (usually via the one of our 11 area clubs, membership of which will sit comfortably alongside first claim membership of your club) although they can, as an alternative, register as “open” members and enter any of the championships organised for the British Masters Athletic Federation by our operating company BMAF Services Limited at a slightly higher cost. If you encourage these individual entries, there is the incentive that you can enter organise three person teams (of either gender) in age bands 35-44, 45-54,55-64, 65-74 and 75+ in a number of races each year. These team entries are free of charge to the clubs except in the case of our “blue riband” road relay championships in the Spring, and cross-country relays in the Autumn, where there is no charge for individual athletes but instead the club pays a fee per team. There is the opportunity to “down-age” athletes to make up teams and so it may not be too demanding to make up some teams. Winning team members each receive BMAF national championship medals. The events which may be of interest to you in 2020, for assembling teams of three in the above age bands are: –
STOP PRESS: Anyone wishing to enter the BMAF 10 mile championships, should do so as soon as possible as general entries to the Lychett 10 are now closed, with a waiting list of 85, and thus the BMAF allocation will go very quickly as well.
