Worcestershire Beacon Race 2026

Worcestershire Beacon Race 2026

Four Halesowen athletes spent a pleasant afternoon in Malvern at the 68th edition of the Worcestershire Beacon Race.

The course starts and finishes at Rose Bank Gardens and then ascends along a mixture of rocky tracks, woodlands paths and tarmac sections.

Runners cross the St Ann’s Well junction twice and conquer the summits of both North Hill and the Worcestershire Beacon, which is the highest point in Worcestershire at 1,295 feet.

Peter Dear was first back for the club in fourth place in a time of 48:31, over two minute quicker than his effort at the last edition of the race in 2024.

Mel Hepke was 44th and fourth lady in 1:04:16.

There was a welcome return to a scene of considerable former glory for Bill Nock, an eight time winner of the race.

Bill was 52nd in 1:05:23 and was warmly greeted by many athletes who remembered his legendary runs during the 1990s and 2000s.

Mark Hadley brought Halesowen home in 90th place in 1:12:39.
