After recently joining the club, Birmingham was my second marathon and I completed it in a time of 4 hours 5 mins and 54 seconds. This was a 3 minute PB.
I followed a completely different training regime this time due to the fact that since my first marathon in April 2015 I’ve changed careers from a home-based job to now primary teaching full-time which has limited the amount of hours I can put in. Last time I put in a fair few miles. This time I focussed more on speed with now being part of a club that offers these sessions. I generally did efforts on a Tuesday, circuits and yoga on a Thursday plus my weekend long run and one other run during the week at some point. I think it worried me to begin with not being able to put in the miles but after speaking to people at the club I decided it was still possible. For me though, including a variety of sessions helped to keep my motivated, offered a variety of training and most of all I’ve proved to myself that I can actually still train enough to run something like a marathon whilst holding down a hectic job!
I raised a total of £1033.69 for Cancer Research UK. This is a charity close to my heart with it being a disease that is currently affecting my mum and has affected my man, gran, 2 aunties and an uncle. Liz Hawker (On left with Steph Adams)
