Message from the Chairman

Congratulations and a massive Thank you to everyone who helped at the Young Athletes Cross Country race, hosted by Halesowen, in particular Race co ordinators, Mark Higgins and Maurice Endacott.
Feedback has been very positive with the key words being ‘a proper cross country course’.
It is fabulous to see Halesowen back on the racing venue list and so positive for the club.
We also had some very good results from our athletes and I look forward to reading the race report shortly.
Can I also take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Results of Clent race, part of Worcs race league
We have the results of the Clent race and the final standings for the series.
Alex has sent out an email which he has asked me to share with you all in case you didn’t receive it

Subject: Worcestershire Summer Midweek Series 2013 – Clent and Overall Results
Dear Runner
You are receiving this message as you provided your email address on the entry form for one of the races in this year’s Worcestershire Summer Midweek Series. I hope to contact you again at this address to advise on the race series for 2014. Should you wish to opt out on such emails then please let me know.
Provisional dates for next year are 14 May 2014, 11 June 2014, 9 July 204 and 13 August 2014
Attached are the provisional results for the Clent Race held on 7 August 2013 together with the draft of the final over series standings.
Sorry for the delay, I have been on holiday without internet connection.
Should you have any queries or observations on the results please contact me.
I would also like to thank all of you for supporting the series again this year. I thought the Clent Race was a welcome addition to the series, providing a slightly different course to the other races. I would be grateful if any of you have any feedback on the courses, (Hagley, Redditch, Droitwich and Clent) and any thoughts on how the series could be improved. Without this information there is a fear that the series may become stale!
Finally if were unable to be at the prize giving or get someone to claim your prize then again contact me as there maybe wine saved for you.

Jo/Al also sent out an email which I have reproduced below.

Thursday was the final Vets Track & Field League.
A big thank you to everyone who supported us throughout the four meetings, it was lovely to see so many of you taking part.
Over the series Nick Hazelwood gained the U35’s league record in 4:06.4 for the 1500m, was selected to represent the area team in the nationals where he managed to gain first place again and believe his picture was in the Athletics Weekly a couple or so weeks ago.
A thank you must also said to Barry, Maurice, John, Keith, Mick, Jenny & Tony Field for assisting with the officiating, without them the meetings cannot be held.
Hope you are all up for it again next year. Attached are a few photographs, sorry they are a little dark, but it was late, together with the final results.
Good luck to Rosemary who at the young age of 80 is off to the Worlds.
Thanks again
Jo & Al

5k Welsh championship results
Paul Allen ventured back to his homeland at the weekend to take part in the Welsh 5k championships.
Paul was the 65th male finisher, but 1st in the over 65 age category winning the gold medal in a time of 21:31.
Paul was quoted as saying “Quite a breeze against us for 2.5k with slightly undulating last 2k. Worth the 3 hour journey”

Midland senior track and field meeting at Tipton
Midland Counties have today posted the results for the meeting held on Saturday. They are possibly still subject to scrutiny but as they stand, we narrowly WON the match on Saturday, but due to other teams performances on the day we were unable to move from 3rd to 2nd place in the division and hence miss out on promotion.
A great day of performances rounded off by the victorious Womens 4*400m team of Alex Bartlett,Beth and Hannah Sharkey and Judith Buckley.
Thanks to everyone who participated, supported and assisted this season especially as we hosted the first meeting of the season.

U17 – U20 Upper age group track and field meeting
Sunday 28 July saw Andy Giffords U17 – U20 age group athletes make the trip to the home of Royal Sutton Coldfield AC to compete in the final meeting of this age group for the season.
Knowing that a good performance could see the Halesowen team win the division, all the athletes performed brilliantly and did indeed win the match and also the division.
The results have been published on the league website, though the final tables have not yet been published.
The league website states that the winners of the West 2a and West 2b divisions will have a paper play off to decide who gets promoted to West 1.
This would mean Halesowen of West 2A having a paper play off against Gloucester of West 2B. We await the outcome.
