Covid Update from Chair Steven Millington

Dear All,

After a long winter as an athlete, runner, jogger you really look forward to the clocks going forward, lighter nights and warmer days, you just can’t wait.

This evenings developments from the Rt Hon Boris Johnson really do knock you back, but we’re resilient people, we’ll do as he, and the country request and deserve and make the best of a bad situation, as we always do.

At least we are allowed out once a day to exercise, so I suggest you all make the most of the opportunity.

The committee of your athletic club have been meeting regularly (2 metres apart) over the past couple of weeks, making plans then tearing them up and starting again as the situation changed.

We were looking forward to holding, last Saturday, the Cross Country and Sportshall Presentation evening, we had to cancel that but we’re hoping to hold a “virtual” presentation evening at some point over the next few weeks.

We promised you an on-line club kit shop, the new, “Nike” kit looks great and the shop was all set to go live, I’ll now check the situation regarding ordering and get back to you later this week.

We are due to start collecting the annual club subscriptions, we will need to do this but we’ll be giving it a couple of weeks before we start that task so that we can all settle down a little.

As a club we will try and introduce a few things to try and keep people motivated over the coming weeks.

We already have the virtual relay operational here on Facebook for people to join and I’m sure we can come up with other things to keep us occupied.

We have a virtual club on the Strava App, suggest you join that if you haven’t already done so.

The social side of the club is also very important, Wednesday nights have long been the traditional “Club Night” – it’ll be a big miss in my life so this Wednesday and every Wednesday I’m going to be sat in the garden with a pint and I’m just going to call someone who I would normally speak to at the club and have a quick chat, sounds a bit random I know but it’ll be a good way to keep in touch, so I suggest you all give it a go and see what happens, message me if you want my number.

We hope to keep in touch with all of our members through all our “media” channels, not everybody does “Facebook” so apologies if you get this message and others on a couple of occasions, we’re just trying to engage with as many people as possible.

That’s all for now, Keep the faith

“Up ‘Owen”
