24TH FEBRUARY 2021
As chair of the athletic section of Halesowen A&CC it’s been quite some time since I felt the need to say anything about the affairs of the club.
We all knew what was happening and you didn’t need me telling you that we were in lockdown!!
Recent Government announcements and England Athletics guidelines are now being reviewed and further information regarding training activities will follow in due course.
In the meantime, the rules remain the same:
The lockdown has not stopped the club committee meeting behind the scenes and in January it was agreed that we couldn’t wait for restrictions to ease before we started making plans for a return to normality.
We identified three projects that we felt required immediate action and sub-committees were formed to tackle each one.
The first, led by Peter Dear was charged with organising a series of athletic events, both virtual and real, to take place over the spring and early summer months.
I am delighted to report that the first of these will be unveiled later this week giving all club members something to strive for as we return to competitive action.
A club “fixture list” of events should also be published in due course which will hopefully give you a focus before a return to more structured competition later in the year.
The second group, headed by Sarah Thompson has been tasked with looking at the coaching provision offered by the club to all age groups, ensuring we deliver a great experience allowing athletes to achieve their full potential.
Consultations on this project are in full swing and hopefully we can implement improvements to the way we do things over the coming months.
Last, but certainly not least, a group headed by Judy Foster is looking to organise a series of events to celebrate the centenary of the club during the course of 2022.
They already have a wish list of great events which hopefully we can deliver to honour both the memory of Jack Price who founded the club in 1922 and also to put a smile on our faces after what has been, for all of us, a pretty miserable twelve months.
That’s all for now, I’ll be back with an update in around two weeks.
