Autumn Approaching – A word from your chair

Autumn Approaching – A word from your chair

Well it’s been a busy old time at Halesowen A & CC over the past couple of weeks.

Thanks to everyone that attended the Track & Field Presentation Evening on the 19th October,

A great turnout and it was lovely to see so many happy smiley faces!!

Congratulations to all the recipients of awards and thanks to Dean Miller for helping with the presentation of awards, Top bloke and an inspiration to us all.

On Thursday 25th October the clubs facilities were used by students from Birmingham University in conjunction with Aimhigher West Midlands to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There target was to complete as many laps as possible of the track at Halesowen.

At the end of the day the team had managed to complete 222 laps which equates to around 50 miles.

To date they’ve raised a magnificent £1,819.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support, it would be great if with our help they could break the £2000 barrier, if you’d like to donate please click on the link below.

Saturday evening 3rd November, saw the club holding it’s annual bonfire event, well done to everyone that had a hand in the organization, a great, safe event once again.

Despite all of this activity there’ll be no let up over the next couple of weeks.

This Wednesday evening, 7th November at 8.45pm, we’ll be holding in the club house, the monthly team meeting, this fun packed, informative meeting is the best way to find out about all things going on at Halesowen A & CC, we have a review of the past months activities, we preview forthcoming events both athletically and socially and generally its just nice to catch up with your mates, I know Facebook is a great way of keeping in touch but back in the old days you had to get out to meet people so get down the club and see “yer mates”

Saturday 10th November, the cross country season starts in earnest for the senior men and women. The ladies will be in action at Counden Park, Coventry while the Men travel to Cob House Country Park for their race.

Cross Country is the backbone of club athletics so make sure you do your very best to take part, “Park Running” on Saturday morning will not be tolerated!!

The following day, Sunday 11th November, and while were on the subject of the “Old Days” Dave Turvey will be hosting at the club an old members reunion.

Meet at the club at 11.30am for a gentle 3mile jog/walk over the field behind the club, then in the bar for a bit of a social, of course current members are very welcome to come along, we’re even offering free food to tempt people along!!

Finally, and most important of the all, the event of the year……….The athletic section Annual General Meeting (AGM) – Your chance to have your say in the running of the club’s affairs, we’ll have reports of the clubs activities and finances and we’ll be electing committee members to run the club on your behalf for the next twelve months.

I’ve been delighted to act as “chair” of the club for the past year and I’m sure you’ll all be very happy to know that I’m willing to act as chair for the forthcoming year, we do need an extra committee member or two, if you’re interested please contact myself or club secretary Kathryn Williets.

Well, I think that’s all for now,

Steven Millington
